City Life Instalation
After having installed my Worker Ant sculpture at the train station i wanted to develop the concept further.
With this installatin I wanted to make people aware of their surroundings and prehaps make them question things more. I wanted for people to come across it my installation by chance, not knowing that they were going to experience something different when they set off on their journey/commute into the city. For it to open peoples eyes to other possibilities and give a fresh look on things, to help them to look at their environment differently, prehaps just take more notice of the smaller things, to make them excited about the city and what has not been discovered. Even just for some one to experience something out of the ordianry, to show more is out there in the world, other than work, money and possessions. As I see the train station as a portal and a vortex into the city from outside I knew that the train station would be a location were I could reach people.
The site specific installation for the Train station was installed on 3rd- 10th June 2010. The installation has been entirely constructed from recycled materials from around Plymouth and other City's such as Cardiff and I used waste materials from building sites to construct supports.
For me the instalation represents the possibility beyond capatalist utilization and the over indulgent consumerist use of the public urban space which is so controlled by large corporation, goverment, advertising and the invasion of cctv cameras.
More Photographs of completed installation to be uploaded soon.
